Sadly, two-thousand years have passed, and Antinomian Gnosticism is still an ever present threat to the Church. It creeps in by teaching that God’s Law has been abolished, Jesus Christ is not Lord, and repentance is not necessary for salvation. So Peter’s final words in 2 Peter 3:17-18 are as important today as the day they were written. He exhorts believers to be on guard and growing. These final two exhortations are a summary of all the previous exhortations. As believers guard against false teachers and grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, they will persevere in the faith and obtain their imperishable, undefiled, and unfading inheritance (cf. 1 Peter 1:4).
