Luke 1:68-70 reports, “Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying: Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people, And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant—As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old.” Zacharias declared that the Messiah would be the “horn of salvation.” That is, the Messiah would have the power of salvation or the power to redeem. Zacharias also declared that the Messiah would come from the “house of David.” Hence, the Messiah would be the Anointed King. He also declared that the Messiah’s birth was predicted by the “holy prophets from of old.” Indeed, Christmas in the Hebrew Scriptures continues with the Prophets. Notably, the Prophets focus on four prophecies — the Seed of David, the Sign of the Virgin, the Stem of Jesse, and the Small Town.
