Because the false teachers turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ, God will, without doubt, judge them. God’s judgment of false teachers is certain because God routinely judged the wicked throughout history. In 2 Peter 2:4-9, Peter presented three examples of God’s judgment in the past — the angels of Genesis 6, the Flood, and Sodom and Gomorrah. As a follow-up, in verses five through seven of his epistle, Jude provides examples of God’s judgment in the past to demonstrate its certainty in the future. This section of Jude could be viewed as part two of Peter’s previous discussion on the certainty of judgment on false teachers.
