Controlling one’s tongue, caring for the helpless, and consecrating oneself from worldliness are three examples of the external, observable qualities of a life of faith according to James 1:26-27. In chapters two and three of his epistle, James explored this issues of caring for the helpless and controlling one’s tongue. Now in chapter four, he dives into the issue of consecrating oneself from worldliness. As James delves into the issue of worldliness, he sets forth a two-fold risk. First, worldliness creates conflicts with others. Second, worldliness creates enmity with God.
