The Seventh Day: The Lord’s Sabbath - Genesis 2:1-3 - a podcast by Rev. Gregory G. Capel, Jr.

God did three things on the seventh day that He did not do on the previous six. First, He rested (šābat) on the seventh day. The term sabbath (šabbāt) means to cease and is derived from the term rested or šābat. Second, He blessed (bārak) the seventh day. Blessed (bārak) means to endow with longevity, to memorialize. By blessing the seventh day, God made the day a memorial of His creative power.
