Psalm 144 is a psalm of war and peace. Many Christians today are bothered by the holy wars of the Hebrew Scriptures with their bloodshed and violence. Nevertheless, they are the result of God’s war on sin. Since Adam’s fall, God has been at war with sin. In His war against sin, God fights for His people — Israel and the Church. As God’s people, we are engaged in spiritual warfare. Our weapons are not fleshly but spiritual. The enemy is Satan and his demonic forces. Because the Church is engaged in this spiritual battle, Psalm 144 is as relevant today as when David penned it.
