The defining feature of modern democracy I would argue, is that the state has changed so much since the ancient forms of democracy. Unlike the small city states of ancient democracies, we now have states with mammoth executives such as never seen before. Democracy is increasingly about choosing the leaders who will manage the administration of the state, rather than voting on individual policies. So now we have this idea that democracy is not just about rights and protecting interests, but is about ensuring good governance.

Where to eat?
My friend went on a blind date once.
She met the guy and asked “Where do you want to go eat?”
He said he didn’t care.
So she suggested a pasta place and he agreed.
She asked him “What would you like to order?”
He said he didn’t care.
She ordered a big seafood pasta.
When it came out the guy told her that he had a seafood allergy and he wasn’t really hungry so she had to eat most of it by herself…
