What did romantic poetry in India sound like, over a thousand years ago? Ramaprasad KV has an in-depth conversation on the Amaru-Shataka with hosts Pavan Srinath and Surya Prakash BS on Episode 12 of the Thale-Harate Kannada Podcast. The Amaru-Shataka is a celebrated collection of 100 verses written in Sanskrit around 6th-8th century CE by the poet Amaruka.

Ramaprasad has translated the Amaru-Shataka from Sanskrit into accessible Kannada, and talks about the immortal nature of this work, the timeless appeal of how the poet has approached the conversations and thoughts of those in love. The podcast features a wide-ranging discussion on the social and economic conditions that may have enabled such poetry, its history, rhyme and metre, as well as about ancient Indian literature.
