I just finished this book earlier this week. Like all of McCullough's books that I've read so far, it's excellent. He's one of my favorite writers, if not my favorite.

The history of the building of the Panama Canal could have easily been made into a really boring book, but his writing style is so engaging, it makes the story come alive. He goes into some technical details, but this book, like his book about the Brooklyn Bridge, is about people, not numbers. My only disappointment is that I now have one less McCullough book to read. Later this year I plan to readBrave Companions, and then after thatThe Johnstown Flood, and then I'll just have to wait for him to write something new.
