Mac Anderson is the founder of Simple Truths and Successories, Inc., the leader in designing and marketing products for motivation and recognition.

These companies, however, are not the first success stories for Mac. He was also the founder and CEO of McCord Travel, the largest travel company in the Midwest, and part owner and vice president of sales and marketing for Orval Kent Food Company, the country’s largest manufacturer of prepared salads.

His accomplishments in these unrelated industries provide some insight into his passion when speaking to many corporate audiences on a variety of topics, including leadership, motivation, and team building. Mac has authored or co-authored twenty-five books that have sold more than four million copies.

Show Highlights:

My motto is: Quality is the mother, and you don’t mess with mom. – Mac Anderson“Inch by inch, life’s a cinch. Yard by yard, life’s hard,” so let’s just make a list of all the things you gotta do and knock them off one at a time and at the end of the day you’ll get there. -Mac AndersonSometimes it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it, and all of a sudden you say words that make what you’re thinking crystal clear just like the image when you twist the lens of a camera. -Mac AndersonQuotes have always been an important part of my life to reinforce my priorities in life. -Mac AndersonI’ve learned the difference between success and failure… it’s how you think. You need to learn to manage your attitude. -Mac AndersonIn each business that I’ve started, there were really 3 values that I really embraced: Quality, Exceptional Service, and the Power of Kindness. -Mac AndersonThere are so many little things that you can do to let people know that you care, and all those things add up, and if you hire great people that are kind people you’ll create a culture of service and kindness that is lasting. -Mac AndersonSomebody once said “Culture eats strategy for breakfast,” so if you can get the culture right, everything else tends to follow. -Dan Moore“You can’t send a duck to eagle school.” -Bob Middlemas, President of Nordstroms MidwestReally the key in my opinion to a great leader is to be able to spot talented people for each position, but then keep them excited about your mission. -Mac AndersonIt’s a matter of knowing your strengths and weaknesses and hiring great people to compliment what you’re weak at. -Mac Anderson

Mac’s closing thoughts: In some cases, you can find people that are retired that have been great accountants or even great CFO’s that are looking for something to do. They’re looking for something to get excited about. you can recruit some of these folks part-time to help you understand what you need on the accounting and operations side. The other way is just to take the leap of faith and say, “Look, I know my budget doesn’t call for a person making this much money, but I’m going to make it happen and trust them to grow the business so it works out.” Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith.
