The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite led to a reckoning in Hollywood about diversity in the film industry and certainly in who gets nominated for prestigious awards. The movement sparked conversations about how the Black experience is depicted in arts and culture and why it's important that those portrayals be multidimensional and accurate. In this 2017 segment focusing on Black male roles, Nam Kiwanunka spoke to Toronto International Film Festival artistic director Cameron Bailey; Maurice Tomlinson, senior policy analyst with the Canadian HIV-AIDS legal network; RTA School of Media adjunct professor Mark Campbell; and Wesley Crichlow, associate professor at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
