Seventy years ago, Maple Leaf defenseman Bill Barilko scored a memorable goal against the Montreal Canadiens to give the Toronto team its fourth Stanley Cup in five years. Four months after Barilko's heroics, he disappeared on a fishing trip, when his small aircraft crashed. For 11 years, authorities were unable to find the crash site. The Leafs won no Stanley Cups while Barilko was missing, until 1962, the same year the crash site was found. We commemorate the goal, which was immortalized in the Tragically Hip song, "Fifty Mission Cap."
