At 21, she was signed to Mercury records, shortly after spent a year touring with David Bowie as a backup singer, and more recently co-arranged and performed astronaut Chris Hadfield's popular cover of "Space Oddity" She's also released more than 20 albums, has her own record label, and is clearly a prolific singer/songwriter, musician, and now vocal coach, and author. Emm Gryner said yes to every opportunity but when her life changed drastically a few years ago, she realized opportunity works better with preparation and intention. She talks to Nam Kiwanuka about her music journey and what she's learned over the years about life, singing, and taking her career seriously as a business... and a kind of sport.
