Clarrie’s worrying about the gossip around Eddie’s resignation from Lynda’s production. But Susan thinks it’s romantic: Eddie’s taking a stand. She has her own issues to wrestle with. She’s trying to get out of riding a horse, but Lynda’s having none of it. Susan suggests Clarrie tackles Eddie head on about putting a stop to his Darrington involvement. So when Eddie arrives home he’s met with a silent protest from Clarrie and the grandchildren. Later Clarrie relents. She feels sorry for Eddie putting up with Evangeline. Maybe he should quit if it’s as bad as he’s saying? No, insists Eddie, Lynda needs teaching a lesson; he’s doing the Darrington show.
Martha’s doing well, and Chris is proud of Alice. Alice points out she’s not fixed, or ‘better’. Every day she wants to drink. Emotional Chris finds this hard to digest. If Alice drinks, she risks everything. Alice knows that, and is terrified. She’s going to have to live with the craving for ever. She doesn’t know if she can do it. They’re both at breaking point, and Alice needs help. She has a call with Lisa, her buddy from detox, who reassures her what she’s feeling is normal. She needs to take one day at a time. Lisa hails Alice as brave despite her panic and guilt over Martha. And talking to her, and Chris, is the right thing to do. Later Chris apologises for his earlier reaction. He’s there for her. It’s ok, says Alice, it’s under control.
