Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org

The Catholic Church teaches in our Catechism that “the works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessities.”

Suffering caused by deprivation of material well-being, oppression, illness, and death are all signs of our frailty as humans.  Our Catechism also teaches us that our need for salvation is a result of our original sin.  All the members of Christ’s Church are required to work on behalf of those who suffer. The Corporal Works of Mercy are the seven practices of charity, based on Christ’s prediction of the Last judgment that we find in the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 25:41).   We are reminded that in doing these things, we are serving Christ Himself.
