The title of this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site is "Man, Moon, Media, and Myth". We are pleased to welcome George Haloulakos to our program. George, a professor at a local university and Sci-Fi enthusiast, and his father have written a thesis titled "The Science of Space Flight in Classic Sci-Fi Cinema". The focus of this paper is on the space flight technology featured in the 1964 un-aired pilot episode of "Lost in Space", titled "No Place to Hide", and the 1968 classic motion picture "Planet of the Apes". George tells us what was real and not-so-real about the way space flight technologies were portrayed in these two productions as well as other programs of that time. Additionally, we look at the era of the 1960s in the context of the space program; The extraordinary people involved, the 'Can Do' attitude of that time, and the positive aspect and underlying optimism that was evident throughout the years when the quest to land a man on the moon was at its peak. Our Retro-Commercial is for B. F. Goodrich Tires. The commercial dates from 1969, and aired during radio coverage of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. Join us for this interesting and thought-provoking episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site!
