We look back at the golden age of music videos on this episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site. Back in the 1980s, we watched our favorite music videos on such channels as MTV and VH1, and such programs as Night Tracks and Friday Night Videos. Music Videos, being essentially short musical films, helped us to enjoy the hits of the day and to see our favorite performers acting in these creative films. Michael Jackson, Pet Shop Boys, Madonna, and Huey Lewis are just a few of the artists who produced music videos. These music videos have earlier antecedents, going back to the 1950s and even earlier! Tune in to find out how these musical films evolved. Next, we look back at the 40th anniversary of the motion picture Jaws. Back in 1975 Jaws, the thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, and having a musical score by John Williams made its debut in theaters around the country. The memories of this film are still very vivid, the suspense waiting for the killer man-eating shark to attack and the haunting musical bridge that told us something bad was going to happen! Actors Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss playing key characters in the story helped to keep us on the edge of our seats. There's a lot of interesting background info we have for you so listen in for some fun facts. Finally we remember Stan Freberg, who passed away on April 7th of 2015. He was a popular voice artists, humorist, radio actor, and recording artist. Mr. Freberg is remembered for many of the satirical recordings he produced over the years. Among them were the well remembered, "St. George and the Dragonette", and we play a sample of his work titled "Cest Si Bon" from 1950. Our Retro-Commercials are for Canada Dry, and for True Value Hardware Stores from 1976, voiced by the late Lew Wood.
