Remember the music known as "Sunshine Pop"? On this edition of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, Mike presents an engaging look back at this sub-genre of music from the 60s and 70s. Such artists as Peppermint Rainbow, The Fifth Dimension, and The Beach Boys all had songs that were Sunshine Pop hits. Mike relates the need for escape that these songs provided at a time when so much social upheaval was happening. He also draws a parallel to today's difficult times, and how these songs take us back to a time now considered more carefree. Smitty has news of a new on-line resource presented by the Library of Congress, where you can listen to recorded music from the early part of the 20th Century. The acoustical recordings from the Victor Talking Machine Company, provide a look at musical tastes from the early 1900s. And all of these recordings are available on your computer free of charge! Listen for details. Finally, Ian Rose remembers Dana Wynter, the German-born British Beauty who was well know for her movie and TV roles. Perhaps she is best remembered for her roles in the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Sink the Bismarck". Our Retro-Commercial is for Rice Krispies Cereal.
