The Jersey: The Secrets Behind The World's Most Successful Team.

Everyone knows the All Blacks but not everyone knows why the All Blacks are the most dominant international team in sporting history.

Peter Bills was brave enough to go out there and find out. In his book called The Jersey, he chronicles the history of this tiny island country with a population of about 4.8-million people and how they managed to conquer the world in rugby.

The New Zealand All Blacks have also transcended rugby and are one of the most recognized sporting brands in the world, which is why they are able to attract attention from as far as the USA, where rugby is not a traditional sport.

The book also delves into the business of rugby in New Zealand – and in other parts of the world. It is not shy to tackle the prickly issues such as the All Blacks' benefit from Polynesians and South Islanders, who have been frozen out of mainstream rugby by World Rugby in recent weeks.

Sbu Mjikeliso chats with the author Peter Bills to discuss some of the issues the book touched on, with a particular interest in the contrasts and comparisons between South Africa and New Zealand.

Sbu also quotes some passages from the book and puts it to Peter about the Steve Hansen's comments that "rugby was not a black man's sport" and other transformation-related issues that SA is still dealing with.

It's a fascinating conversation. If you love your rugby, you will love this.

Otherwise you well!
