What kind of pressure do you find yourself under today? Pressure from situations with your home, health, work, finances?

So many people are suffering the after-effects of Hurricane Ida, wildfires and constraints caused by the pandemic, it’s common to feel, “I’m so over it,” and want to escape!

We find ourselves returning to the marvelous New Testament word, hupomone (pronounced hoop-o-mown-ay). The prefix hupo means “under” and the verb mone means “remain.” Literally, hupomone means to “remain under," thus to endure.

The ideas is that as we experience pressure in life and want to get away from some situations, instead we choose to “remain under” the pressure – that is to endure and bring God's grace into the situation. We may think our capacity to endure comes from a positive attitude or the strength of our will, however Romans 12 shows us the way:  let us run with endurance (hupomone) the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Look to Jesus and find strength through the power of positive trusting in the Lord who loves you “...that through endurance (hupomome) and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Romans 15:4
