Game of the Show: Vanquish

Published by PlatinumGames, MSRP $20, Buy on Humble (Partner Link)

Basically, here’s how Platinum Games, a Japanese video game developer experiences the cold war narrative as told by Hollywood in a futuristic setting while packing it in a cover shooter\action game. And if that sounds like the potential to something super corny - it definitely is.

It’s a nice day in San Francisco when all of a sudden, a huge laser shoots down from the sky and turns everyone to dust. Russia is threatening to laser NYC and US significant cities, and what does the US do? Send in the marines!

You are playing as Sam (from uncle sam, that is), wearing the latest DARPA Exo suit and join the marines as a specialist to win the war.

The gameplay’s a really high pace. When I compare it to Bulletstorm, it’s more hack and slash, Devil May Cry style and less ‘Doon Eternal’ (if that even make sense). Bullet time effects are fantastic. The guns and enemies are nice.

It’s a good game that totally went under my radar.
