Sergeant Major Rose was born in July 1956 in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School there in May 1974. After high school graduation and during that same month in 1974, he reported to Marine Corps Recruit Training Regiment located at Paris Island, South Carolina for Recruit Training. Mr. Rose holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (2007) from National University with a Major in Human Resources and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership (2009) from National University. He is presently enrolled at National University and projected to complete the requirements for a Master’s Degree in Public Administration in March 2021.

Mr. Rose is married to the former Pamela Marie Burks from Norfolk, Virginia. They have three kids; Nicole (Jimmy), Annanias Jr, and Joshua) and two grandkids (Jordan and Justin).
