“Love is the active concern for the life and the growth of that which we love”

- Erich Fromm

Paul in his letter to the Corinthians describes the behaviors of love or defines love. He uses terms like love is patient, kind, never gives up, is hopeful and endures every circumstance. He also describes what love is not. Love is not arrogant, rude, irritable or demanding of self. Though we miss this mark so many times, those pursuing an authentic life understand love requires growth, maturity, and discipline on our part. We should never give up on reaching for the behaviors of love Paul speaks about while recognizing that love is more than just a unique feeling of romance, intrigue or desire, love causes us to do and be as we allow ourselves to be influenced by its power.

Peck in his book, “The Road Less Traveled,” states “the only true end of love is spiritual growth or human evolution. My prayer for you and myself is that we will allow the power that is love, to move us toward growth on a spiritual level which will enable us to evolve toward ever greater maturity in our intrapersonal and personal relationships with others.
