Luke 2:8–15 (NLT) That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. 9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, 10 but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! 12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” 15 When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

There are a lot of ways you can make God feel at home in your heart. First of all, you can simply be obedient to His Word.

Today focus on how easy it is to become so consumed with life that we fail to make room for the Advent of Christ in our lives. It is so easy to hear the good news about Jesus and still not act on that in our hearts and lives. In the scripture text above, we see the shepherds hearing the good news about a savior and acting on the message and taking time and effort to travel the distance necessary to go to where the child was. The first thing is to simply respond to what we hear.

John 8:36–37 (NLT) So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. 37 Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message.

One line I love from popular Christmas carol Joy to the World is, "Let every heart, prepare Him room." Truly this week purpose to prepare Him room in your life. As God speaks to your heart about areas you have filled with other things, purpose to react and respond by making room for Jesus in your life.
