Matthew 2:1–2 (NLT) Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, 2 “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”

"Never be too busy to notice what God is doing around you"

As we enter this last week of Advent, we see that Christ becomes the focus and the center of all that is going on. More than what He brings, He becomes the focus and we are left with what our response is to who He is.

As we consider Matthews account of the birth of Christ, Matthew focuses on a group of wise men who had seen something that caught their attention. Most likely in their cultures and history men such as themselves paid attention to the stars to watch for events and happenings. They could have been kings, or scientist but were definitely men of wisdom and wealth, but still they made time for paying attention to thing outside the norm. Out of all the Kings and wise men of the East here this group had not been too busy with their normal stuff that they didn't notice the new star in the sky that shone so brightly.

I wonder how many important things we miss because even though we have heard the stories, we are just too busy with our lives to notice what God is doing around us. It is easy for those of us who claim to be seekers of God to be so obsessed with ourselves that we are merely self-absorbed and really oblivious to what God is doing around us. You can be assured that when God is wanting to send us on a journey of seeking, He will make the message clear, the star will be bright, the only question is whether or not we are going to take notice and begin the journey of seeking Him.

“I suddenly saw that all the time it was not I who had been seeking God, but God who had been seeking me. I had made myself the centre of my own existence and had my back turned to God.”
― Bede Griffiths

For today remember that people of wisdom are always aware of the reality that God is always present and to the possibility that He may be up to something in your life. Ask God to renew your passion for seeking Him and purpose to live in such a way that you are never too busy to notice what God is doing around you.

Just Be
