Dr. Christina Master, Co-Chair of the PA Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics School Health Committee, joins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the methodology behind their decision to suggest masking for children when they return to in-person schooling in the fall. First, Giordano and Dr. Master discuss the number one purpose of both the AAP and the Pennsylvania division of AAP, being the health and safety of children, with Dr. Master explaining how the AAP determined this is the safest route for children come fall. Then, Giordano and Master discuss whether the AAP weighed the negative effects of masking when coming to their determination, which Master was quick to confirm as a definite discussion when determining their guidelines. After that, Giordano asks Master what she says to parents of teenage patients who have already been vaccinated but will require to stay masked, and whether removal of mask-free learning removes the incentive to get vaccinated.
