In today’s second hour, Giordano leads off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing the cancellation of a favorite in the realm of children’s media, Captain Underpants. Last week, a petition started targeting author Dav Pilkey for his representation of Asian characters in 2010’s The Adventures of Ook and Gluk: Kung-Fu Cavemen from the Future. In the book, Pilkey is alleged to use ‘passive racism’ in his representation of a Kung Fu master. Giordano discusses the situation, explaining why he’s vehemently against Pilkey kowtowing to a vocal minority. Then, Giordano turns this into a discussion about other cancelled children’s media, including Dr. Seuss, and wonders whether an apolitical series such as Berenstain Bears could find success in today’s world. After that, Giordano discusses an interview between Mayor Kenney and 6ABC’s Jim Gardner, in which the Mayor suggested that the school year would be extended into the summer.
