Today we spent time with one of Ivan's close friends, Desmond Soh, who is a clinical psychologist at Annabel Psychology.  The "Non-Essential" - Essential nature of the mental health world is one filled with misconceptions, imbalance, a lack of support and a need for change.  The basic understanding of sadness and depression should already be on the top of that list, along with understanding how to properly support your loved ones and how one handles pain.

We spent time covering a whole range of topics that touch on the topic of Mental Illness. Something we are personally confident that most people truly understand very little about. We talked about the stages of mental illness, how people should or can respond to pain, challenging stigmas, the impact of tech, and so much more. Trust us. There are so many levels that you would feel that your actual knowledge is that of a preschooler.

Truth is, there are numerous types of psychologists out there and they are as undervalued in our society as teachers. Which quite frankly is a crime in itself. He has barely started but he has seen and experienced a lot through his life as a psychologist.

Places & information he feel is important:

1. Polyclinics have psychologists that you can see for ~$30. However, because it’s the polyclinic, there might be long waiting times for your appointment.

2. Getting a referral from a polyclinic GP to see a psychologist or psychiatrist at any general hospital. This route is more expensive than the polyclinics but is still be under $80. You don’t have to worry about wait times at the hospital. However, it might still take a few months before your first appointment

3. National university of Singapore (Clinical health and psychology centre), James cook university (JCU clinic) and National institute of education (NIE wellness centre) all have clinics on their campuses that train new psychologists. These trainee psychologists are also closely supervised by a licensed psychologist for their work. The charges here range from $15 to $30.

4. Other places to look for low cost mental health support also include CHAT (it's operated by IMH at SCAPE) and Family service centers
