Mary Ann Starkweather - a podcast by The Eastern Echo
from 2021-04-17T22:00
After learning about the racist history of Daniel L. Quirk, former namesake of EMU's Communication, Media, and Theatre Arts building, The Eastern Echo took up investigating the history behind the namesakes of other campus buildings.
In this first episode, we learn about Mary Ann Starkweather, namesake of Starkweather Hall, and her possible ties to the abolitionism. Throughout the mid-late 1800s, Starkweather was a well-know philanthropist in her community. She funded Starkweather Hall and Starkweather Chapel in Highland Cemetery.
