More about the Finely's and The Listening Tree Below

Omar Finley is a native of Pontiac Michigan. He grew up in a caring household right next to a housing project in the middle of the crack cocaine era. So he’s very familiar with the so called “War On Drugs” which in truth was a war on black communities nationwide. The brother that he never knew was shot in the back by a police officer in 1977 a year before he was born. This tragedy led Omar’s father to Alcoholism. His father died from lung and liver cancer when Omar was 6. So Omar is personally acquainted with the black struggle. In the midst of what may sound like a storm, Omar was exposed to a plethora of different environments. Specifically the suburban life of Bloomfield Hills in contrast to his home life. Fast forward to today. Omar is a graduate of Hampton University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He lives in Hampton GA with his wife Kimberly and 3 children ages 3, 7 and 9. Kimberly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Omar and Kimberly met at Hampton University in 1998. They were married on May 21st, 2007.
Omar and Kimberly were frustrated with the book choices for their own children and decided to establish a company called Our Story Books Publishing. They wrote a book called “A World Of Our Own: The Beginning”. This book beautifully illustrates the first 7 days of God’s creation! The beauty of this book is that God is a black man! They sold 500 copies in less than 90 day’s and realized that they should continue writing children’s books for black children. While writing their 2nd book, “A World of Our Own: Noah The Righteous,” they noticed that their pace of writing children’s books wasn’t fast enough to provide consistently good books that depicted black children at the center of the story. That frustration became the birth of The Listening Tree! A Children’s Booktique servicing ages 0 - 16 committed to black authorship! The listening tree also boasts a Young Entrepreneurs Program that is already serving our young people, ages 8 – 16, here in Decatur and Atlanta and teaching them how to own and operate their own businesses. The Listening Tree also serves the national community through it’s B-Boys and B-Girls Book Club! The B-Boys and B-Girls Club is designed to ensure that every child receives a minimum of 12 age and gender appropriate books per year that will challenge, teach and inspire him or her to excellence in every field of human endeavor! Each month every child receives a book along with fun surprises like book marks, posters and all kinds of other fun paraphernalia! The Listening Tree’s mission is to perpetuate literacy and a love of learning in our global community!
