Episode 57 The Teen Brain with Dr. Sarah Sarkis

If you are like me, you read a number of books to prepare for parenting your baby. However, what I don't think I have enough information about is what I am supposed to do with those babies once they hit the teen years. In Episode 57 of The Family Brain, I talk with Hawaii based psychologist and writer, Dr. Sarah Sarkis, about all things parenting a teen. From the importance of sleep, to the necessity of separation, we cover the issues that keep parents up at night. The critical take away is that pushing boundaries is a central part of adolescence and is in fact a very healthy party of development. We might not have all or even many of the answers when it comes to parenting teenagers, but the biggest safety net is keeping the lines of communication humbly open.

My favorite line of the interview:
"Baked into the recipe is the friction of separation." -Dr. Sarah Sarkis
