When this pandemic and crisis schooling struck, I was thinking a lot about a
conversation I had with Stanford professor Dr. Denise Pope on an early episode of
The Family Brain. Her research is all about questioning how we measure learning
and what success means in schools and what better time to revisit this
conversation than during this wild ride of Covid-19 and schooling.

I spoke with Dr. Pope at the tail end of crisis schooling for my kids, but the
questions about what schools will look like in the fall continue to dominate the
news and brains of parents everywhere. I find comfort in reminding myself that
the meaning of success varies and that by looking at it in a new way we may find
some silver linings in the challenges we are currently facing.
