Episode 257: Blacula - a podcast by Film Buds
from 2023-02-17T15:46
Hey y’all,
Black representation in film has a long and complicated past that extends back to the beginning of Film. Blackface, racial disparity behind the scenes, and more all made it difficult for accurate Black representation by Black artists. And in the wake of the Civil Rights movement came a subgenre all its own, Blaxploitation.
The style of filmmaking taps into many of the zeitgeist elements of the 1970s, including sex and violence on screen, and even included Horror. For this week’s episode we’re looking at the Blaxploitation Horror Blacula. We’ll discuss the tropes of Dracula, how they work in this new setting, and review Blacula.
We thank you for joining us this week, and be sure to check out last week’s episode.
Enjoy y’all,
