David Burkus, the author of “Leading from Anywhere: The Essential Guide to Managing Remote Teams”, shares his ideas on how to make Zoom meetings less awful. Nowadays, we’re all bound to zoom meetings. His tips is to set one purpose per meeting and circulate one or two questions per meeting to stimulate discussion because discussing the traditional agenda will be horrible. He also shares ideas on what is synchronized and asynchronized communication. Those two defer from which tool we are using. When we are using zoom that is synchronized communication. When we are using tools like e-mail or slack that is asynchronized communication. The misconception about remote work is that we needed to be communicating all the time and that means synchronized communication. Asynchronized communication is used for the people to focus on their work. Team leaders should make sure they understand what remote work is, what people are working on and what’s blocking them.
