Paul Wordsworth is a research officer in the Oriental Institute at the University of Oxford. He is currently working on the Balkh Art and Cultural Heritage Project, studying the ancient city of Balkh in northern Afghanistan (http://balkhheritage.org).

He has also worked on the Karakum Routes Survey, part of the Ancient Merv Project (University College London), plotting ancient routes across the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/merv/our_research/routes_medieval).
