Women's bodies have long been subject to stigmatised views since the beginning of time. This outlook extends to the topic of the menstrual cycle and periods. In this episode we tackle this 'shame' by discussing the science behind this monthly occurrence. The biology behind it is fascinating and complex. We, in turn, take a look at the different stages of the menstrual cycle; including the ovarian and uterine cycles and the hormonal manifestations that accompany them. We also delve into the nuances and the more social aspects of how having periods can affect lives on a more practical basis.
