Sarah Mason and Jake Essoe review Steve Yeun (The Walking Dead) new film, MAYHEM, streaming exclusively on Shudder as well as SMALL TOWN CRIME, SUBURBICON and TNT's THE ALIENIST in Episode 319: Mayhem of The Harold & Maudecast.

Fans who are still crying over the disturbing demise of Glenn at the hands of Negan (and Lucille) on The Walking Dead, may decide AMC did Steve Yeun a favor by axing his character. In his new horror film, MAYHEM, written by Matias Caruso, directed by Joe Lynch, Yeun proves himself worthy of a whole lot more than zombie guts.

After an unsuccessful attempt to plea for his job that he was unjustly fired from, lawyer Derek Cho (Steve Yeun)is escorted out of his firm. He doesn't get far as the building has been quarantined due to a strange virus. Chaos breaks out throughout the building as victims of the illness lose self-control acting out their wildest, deadliest impulses. Also infected, Derek joins forces with a former client who has a grudge of her own. The duo savagely fight their way to the top floor where the corrupt executives await their wrath.

MAYHEM is fantastic! Thanks to a fun, smart, tight, script and killer performance by Steve Yeun who affirms his leading man potential.
Samara Weaving (THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING MISSOURI) lends the perfect dark comic support as Melanie, Derek's partner in revenge. Casting Dallas Roberts as Lester "The Reaper", the Human Resources Director, is a fun TWD reunion--remember Milton, Woodbury's resident doctor? There's tons of gore and action for hardcore horror fans but the breakout stars of this film are Yeun and screenwriter Matias Caruso. We can't wait to see what they [both] do next. Big Justice. We give it a 9/10.

Also in this episode we review SMALL TOWN CRIME starring indie king, John Hawkes. The film co-stars Anthony Anderson and Octavio Spencer who also executive produces the film and is directed by The Nelms Brothers (WAFFLE STREET). Listen to the podcast for plot recap and our review.

Additionally we review TNT's The Alienist, based on Caleb Carr's book starring Daniel Brühl (INGLORIOUS BASTERDS), Dakota Fanning (TWILIGHT series) and Luke Evans (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST).

Continuing our series 'Rotten Tomatoes F*cked Me Wrong', we take a look at SUBURBICON, written by The Coen Brothers and Directed by George Clooney, starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac. If you're a fan of the Coens, you're gonna wanna listen to our review, and see the film!
