This week on the podcast I share an episode I recorded with a dear author turned friend, Nia Pycior. When I first read her story in her first coauthor book, "You've Got This, Mama, Too," I felt like I was staring at a kindred spirit. Our journeys, though different, were so similar. We are both women who have PCOS but thrive. We are both wives and mamas, and we both love writing and editing!

Nia is the product of a Jamaican mother and an American father and takes great pride in her Caribbean roots. Her heritage is often reflected in her diverse perspective on many topics, as well as in outbursts of Patois (Jamaican dialect) when excited, startled, or upset. Nia is always analyzing her life from the perspective of her deathbed, a habit that stemmed from her six years as a hospice social worker. This is how she determines if something is worth doing, saying, or risking. With that in mind, she started a blog, Perfect for the Pocket, where she shares her thoughts on various subjects, including her journey through infertility and in-vitro fertilization (IVF) in order to banish the stigma, shame, and loneliness that can shroud this health condition. She’s been a stay-at-home mama for over a year, and she spends her days managing her vivacious and dramatic two-year-old daughter and one-year-old little boy! In between household duties and daydreaming about the next meal, she fights her natural introverted tendencies by deliberately maintaining a social life. Nia has been married to the love of her life for seven years and lives within minutes of all her in-laws, whom she adores. She is passionate about her faith, family, and good food and enjoys a glass of single malt Scotch, neat. She considers herself a constant work in progress and hopes to be remembered for trying to help others by being vulnerable and sharing her experiences.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Living with PCOS - knowing the first signs and symptoms (it's different for everyone)

  • Changing the dialogue of the feminine vs. masculine, and honoring both energies.

  • Having an open dialogue about women's health and motherhood.

  • Knowing the power of being united in your similarities while embracing your uniqueness

  • We both share our PCOS stories - you got the diagnosis, but now what? We address the emotional and mental journey of life with PCOS, harnessing your mindset and heartset to heal your self-worth, gain self-confidence.

  • Learning to nurture your body, mind, soul, and passions - mama or not.

  • Having the tough conversations with those in your life about PCOS awareness.

  • Cultivating your support system for yourself and your partner while navigating the waters of hormonal health
