Competing has been a pillar of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and many other martial arts for centuries. Some will even say that competition is responsible for a lot of the advancement of society, technology, and many more facets of life.

Before competing in Jiu Jitsu, you have to form a clear idea of WHY you are competing. I believe you should not compete until you have thought this through. Not only will you derive far greater outcomes than medals and some publicity, but you can use it as a powerful tool to shape your game and understanding of the martial art.
