Joseph Samuel, the author of a memoir, Beyond the Rivers of Babylon: My journey of optimism and resilience in a turbulent century, is a Baghdad-born Holocaust survivor who escaped the ravages of the Farhud, a Nazi-instigated Islamist pogrom from 1–2 June 1941. In May of this year, Joseph wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed entitled “When the Mob Came for the Jews of Baghdad.” He will be speaking at an American Sephardi Federation event with other Holocaust survivors next week
