Kathryn interviews former Rikers Island Assistant Mental Health Chief Mary Buser LCSW, author of “Lockdown on Rikers: Shocking Stories of Abuse and Injustice at New York’s Notorious Jail”. Buser worked at Rikers Island in a maximum-security facility for male inmates at the dawn of the city’s “stop-and-frisk” policy, seeing the biggest jailhouse buildup in New York City history. Buser shines a light into the deepest and most horrific recesses of the criminal justice system.

Kathryn also interviews Ryan Hrejlac, founder of Ryan’s Well Foundation. The Ryan’s Well Foundation’s accomplishments started with the passion and courage of one 6-year-old boy back in 1998. Hreljac was startled to learn in his grade 1 class that not all children could simply get a drink from the drinking fountain, as he could. 20 later, the Ryan’s Well Foundation has helped nearly one million people in 16 countries with 1,166 water projects installed and 1,245 latrines completed.
