• A three-day operation in Kensington last week broke up a major drug operation. Police arrested 175 people and seized $1.4 million in drugs and two dozen weapons. 


• The Philadelphia Fire Department is investigating the cause of a two-alarm blaze in Kensington Monday afternoon that destroyed a multi-use warehouse building that included three small businesses.


• A new problem has emerged in Philadelphia's child welfare system, which is already struggling with staff shortages and high caseloads. The city's largest provider has pulled out of the system because of high insurance costs. 


• It's back to school already for 14,000 students in the Philadelphia School District who signed up for summer enrichment classes.
