- A crowd of people walking side by side on Thursday evening passed through the Southwest Philadelphia neighborhood where police say a gunman on Monday, wearing a ski mask and body armor and wielding a weapon of war, took five souls and wounded four people, including children.
- The first phase of Superintendent Tony Watlington's $70 million curriculum overhaul will start in September, when the school district begins using new math textbooks and materials for kindergarten through grade 12.
- Contract talks between UPS and the Teamsters have stalled. The union of more than 330,000 workers across the country has authorized a strike if a new deal isn’t worked out by the end of the month. If a strike ensues, deliveries would come to a halt, and Philadelphia would be hit especially hard.
