When your kid finally turns 18, they probably have one word on their mind: FREEDOM. And they usually tell you how they’d never consider moving back in with you. But, it may be more likely than you think. According to a study done by the Pew Research Center, about 32% of adults ages 18 to 34 live with their parents. It’s the most common living situation for this age group. While it’s not necessarily a bad thing to have one of your adult kids return to live with you, there’s still a new dynamic between parent and child that can be hard to navigate. We’ve seen many industries push to include more women in leadership roles, but for some jobs that glass ceiling is harder to break. This includes careers in law enforcement. Studies have shown that less than 13% of police officers are women even though they have important skills and strengths that their male counter parts don’t. So what is being done to increase the numbers of female officers? Captain Ivonne Roman founded an organization back in 2017 that aims to help women join the police force in greater numbers. Do you remember the days when puffy sleeves, shoulder pads, and combat boots were all in style? We’ve seen a revival of these throwback trends in recent years as they’ve returned to the fashion world bringing with them a sense of nostalgia. But this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. This phenomenon where clothing trends cycle and recycle has happened for many decades. To understand why this happens and how these trends change over time, we invited Beth Dincuff, a design historian at the Parsons School of Design in New York, to join us on the show.
