This is the MugPunters.com.au podcast for Thursday 11th January 2018 and in our breaking news headlines this week:

- Joe Root finally lived up to the hype in his ashes campaign getting more runs than every other Aussie player combined during the Sydney test. Unfortunately for Root, it wasn’t out in the middle, but instead crouched on the Thomas Crapper after an alleged case of gastro. But Root was humble in defeat and showed true class during his post match speech where he… oh wait… he didn’t even attend the post series presentation because he was sleeping. All I can say Joe is good luck on any upcoming tours of the subcontinent.

- After being denied an Australian Open Wildcard, 142nd ranked Bernard Tomic has hit back at Australia’s governing body who denied him the entry claiming he has never needed Tennis Australia anyway. And to be fair to the young Aussie, it really is true. Tomic has been able to make it all the way to being a world class flog all by himself.

- And supermaxi LDV Comanche (and no, I’m not referring to a women’s sanitary pad), has been gifted the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race after literally standing still in the Derwent River only to watch rival Wild Oats XI take line honours. A race jury was convened shortly after the race to investigate an incident back at the start in Sydney Harbour and head of the race jury, our very own Bartz deemed that although LDV Comanche was only hindered by a few seconds, Wild Oats XI should be penalised a full hour with Bartz suggesting, “how else was I meant to collect on my even money Worthwhile Weekly Wager”?

And this week's episode contains tips for:
- Cricket ODI series
- NFL playoffs
- Australian Open Tennis
