In this very special episode that it near to Kimi’s heart, we have her boyfriend Andy as a guest telling his myofunctional disorder story. Andy got allergies when he was young, started mouth breathing, his adenoids were soo big that no ENT would touch them, no one ever thought to talk about his mouth breathing. He had orthodontics but they left him with a bad end to end bite, open bite, and a tongue thrust that was never addressed with myofunctional therapy as a kid. Poor Andy struggles to breathe all day, and all night. He was diagnosed as having A.D.D. as a teen no one ever tested his sleep. Kimi diagnosed him with sleep apnea on their first date, and gave him the answers for all his health and sleep and breathing issues. Andy is fascinating because he is not tongue or lip tied, but has airway issues and it has led to sleep apnea. Also what is interesting about Andy is he doesn’t have nightmares because he cannot remember his dreams, he doesn’t get into a deep enough sleep. Andy also interesting because he doesn’t really snore. Many people think you have to snore to have apnea, but it’s the respiratory distress and not breathing that causes apnea. Andy has moderate sleep apnea at only age 29!! That means he stops breathing anywhere from 15-30 times every hour. High narrow palate, tongue thrust swallow, mouth breathes, end to end bite, skeletal class 3, low tongue posture, and when we did his airway cbct image it was 1/4 of the size it should be!
