Dr Martin Rosen, Chiropractor and Pediatric Craniopath will be teaching us about the 12 cranial nerves and their functions and dysfunction. We will discuss how babies develop and the biological role for free movement in babies. In the first year of life they are creating thousands of connections in the nerves and creating pathways based off input as well as growing their brains and integrating primitive reflexes. Have you ever heard of sphenoid strain and was confused as to why that could affect craniofacial growth? The sphenoid bone attaches to all but 2 of the bones in the mouth and cranium, as well as 9 out of 12 cranial nerves are directly affected by the sphenoid bones function.
Dr Rosen will also explain tongue function and it's effect on facial growth, development, "If you are functioning at a lower capacity and have to work twice as hard to do the same thing that will effect the baby's ability to eat and sleep, then mom doesn't sleep, dad doesn't sleep, and the siblings doesn't sleep". The problem with "wait and see" for brachiocephaly or flattening of the occipital bone, the cerebellum has to grow 240% in the first year of life and it is located where most babies would have a flat spot in the base of the head.
