You Are Surviving Breath To Breath: Dr Roger Price - a podcast by kimi nishimoto

Did you know that nasal breathing is a 6 step filtration process? We hear about how the nose filters the air but you will need to listen to learn how it all works! This process cleans the air, disinfects and traps pathogens, and helps the body to fight invaders. Everything from the nose hairs, turbinates, sinuses, mucus, nitric oxide gas, adenoids, and tonsils. The moment we breathe with the mouth, we bypass the filtration system and all the muck in the air hits the tonsils or we breathe it into the lungs. We like to tell kids that nose breathing is like drinking clean filtered water, and mouth breathing is like drinking from a puddle because it is full of germs. Dr Roger Price will also bust some myths about asthma and rhinitis aka stuffy nose. If we breathe through the nose gently, things are less inflamed and open, if we breathe hard and fast it's like a tsunami in the nose and the nose will inflame to keep us from overbreathing. We will also discuss the difference between a nasal obstruction like badly deviated septum, enlarged turbinates, large adenoids or tonsils. Sinus or nasal congestion can also be from a biochemical response to how we breathe that causes inflammation of the tissues.

We will also discuss topics such as "Breathing Disordered Sleep" because you only have a sleep breathing issue if you have daytime breathing dysfunction. One of our favorite quotes from this episode is "You only catch 4 things: a virus, a bacteria, a parasite, or a fungus. You're not going to catch anything else. You are going to create what you have as a consequence of your own dysfunctional behavioral patterns which you have created in order to survive."

This episode we also discuss something many men struggle with which is ED (erectile dysfunction) and the role that snoring and sleep apnea play with difficulty maintaining an erection. Nitric oxide created in the nose is so much more important than just the air going in and out of the lungs, it changes our biochemistry and the way we transport oxygen into the cells.
