Alex Shaner was a 26-year-old Ocean Lifeguard for the city of Carlsbad when he broke his neck in a bodysurfing accident.  Paralyzed from the neck down, Alex was told he would never walk again, the avid surfer and waterman knew that would not be an option.  With what many would say was an impossible goal he returned to swim in the ocean a year later!   His long road to recovery did not stop there, now walking and living independently he’s set his sights on becoming a speaker to not only raise awareness about spinal cord injuries but to also use his voice and experience to inspire others!  One of the most powerful stories we’ve had the privilege to share on The Occupation Wild Podcast and a  true story of determination and how for some the love of the ocean is so strong they’ll fight as hard as they can to find their way back.
