It’s Matchday 10 of the German top-flight 2020/21. Will this weekend’s results prove significant in deciding who will win the Bundesliga? Only time will tell, so let’s get into it.  

Friday night’s Bundesliga action starts with a huge game in the German capital, as Hertha Berlin and Union Berlin go head-to-head at the Olympic Stadion. This game is not for the feint hearted. This is a serious derby and means a lot to both sides. It could be a cracker.  Gladbach will be hoping to bounce back from their vital Champions League defeat to Inter in mid-week when they head to Freiburg, a side completely out of form, on Saturday.  

Elsewhere, draw specialists Eintracht Frankfurt play host to Borussia Dortmund. The Black & Yellow’s title challenge has hit the breaks in recent weeks, suffering two defeats in their last three games. Lucian Favre’s side host Lazio on Wednesday in Europe, but three points are an absolute priority on Saturday, having dropped down to fourth in the standings.   

Wolfsburg will be hoping to make light work of Cologne, whilst Mainz and Arminia Bielefeld also go head-to-head in a classic relegation six-pointer.   Defending champions Bayern Munich welcome title challengers RB Leipzig to the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening. The Bavarians are two points clear at the top of the table, having dropped points in just two of their nine Bundesliga games so far this season.

Into Sunday, and we’ve got a genuine mid-table battle to enjoy, as 11th place Werder Bremen play 10th place Stuttgart. With 10 draws between them already this season, a share of the spoils looks pretty likely in this one.

The penultimate game sees winless Schalke host Leverkusen – how much longer can their run of defeats stretch for? – before the Bundes action is wrapped up on Monday night. Inconsistent Hoffenheim host Augsburg, a side who enjoyed a promising start to their campaign before a run of just one win from their last five games.
